Tree Planting and Maintenance
We offer the following services for plantings within Grand Forks
County Soil Conservation District.
Services and rates:
- Site preparation (tilling and/or disking) is the key to a successful
planting. We recommend the ground is summer fallowed for one growing
season prior to planting. This reduces problems with weeds and grasses
that can compete with new tree plantings. The charge is $65 per hour.
(Minimum charge is $65)

-
Tree planting is available for regular size conservation
tree stock supplied by the district. The tree planter is used by the
district to plant trees on properly prepared sites.
For rural home plantings, the charge is $2
per tree. This includes the cost of the tree and having the district
plant the trees. The minimum fee is $200. For
Qualified Farm Program Plantings, the charge is $22 per 100
linear feet (minimum planting length of 2,000 linear feet).
Plantings less than 2,000 linear fee will be charged $30 per 100 linear
feet.
- Mechanical weed control in tree rows is done with a machine called a
"Weed Badger". We also can till between tree rows to control
weeds and grasses that compete with trees. The charge for both
services is $50 per hour for the remainder of 2007. Beginning 2008 the
price will increase to $65 per hour with a minimum charge of $65.
- Granular herbicide application is another way to control weeds. We
can apply a 4 foot band in late fall or early spring. Trees must have
one growing season before the chemical can be applied. Chemical weed
control is available through our district for $10.00 per 100 linear feet.
The minimum charge is $65.
